WOMAN IN POLICE'S DRUGS WATCH LIST SLAIN

It might be a case of vigilante-style killing in Talisay City
following the fatal shooting of a 40-year-old woman who figured in the
police's drugs watch list.

However, Supt. Audie Villacin, Talisay City Police Station chief,
initially downplayed suggestions that vigilantes were responsible for
the death of Wennie Deiparine, a resident of Barangay Cansojong.

After a meeting with police investigators, Villacin gave more weight
to the theory that the killing was drug-related.

Haven

Cansojong is a neighboring coastal barangay of Tangke, considered a
drug haven in Talisay City.

Police said Deiparine had just entered their compound in Cansojong
when three men on a motorcycle followed her at 11:45 a.m.

Deiparine reportedly came from the Palace of Justice in Barangay
Capitol Site, Cebu City where she had a pending drug case, said SPO4
Reynaldo Vitualla.

With his helmet on, the gunman shot Deiparine right in front of her
house, hitting her in the right jaw.

Responding policemen recovered an empty .45 shell and two sheets of
paper with a note "Drug Lord Ako 3x" scribbled on them.

Hospital

Seeing the bloodied Deiparine sprawled on the ground, the three
suspects then sped off aboard a yellow motorcycle.

Residents rushed her to the Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City. Villacin
later received a report that Deiparine had died.

Villacin immediately held a case conference with his police
investigators to determine if the killing was drug-related or carried
out by a vigilante group.
