MOVE ON IT

It does seem strange that Ottawa is so concerned about same-sex unions and
the decriminalizing of those having small amounts of marijuana. Why let
decisions hang for so long?

Off hand it would appear that one-third of the population supports same-sex
unions, one-third is opposed and one-third don't care.

Is it over-simplification to suggest to leave the definition of marriage
the way it is, and extend to same-sex couples the same rights, but call it
a different name?

As for small amounts of "pot," usage does not always lead users to proceed
to "hard" drugs. Why not declare a stiff jail term for pot growers, which
might make the stuff hard to procure?

Every year Calgary police uncover several hundred pounds of marijuana. Do
those guilty of cultivating the stuff ever see jail?
