POLICE 'EASILY ABLE TO FIND' DEALERS AFTER COMPLAINTS: COP

Ask and ye shall receive.

At least that's what some residents in the west end discovered after
they asked police to rid the area of blatant gang and drug activity.

In response to the public outcry, police arrested 18 people on more
than 70 drug charges in a sweep dubbed Project ROGUE (Reducing
Organized Gangs Using Enforcement).

In the past two weeks undercover police officers have seized cocaine,
crack, pot and hashish estimated to be worth almost $14,000 on the
street from alleged "street-level dealers," Det.-Sgt. Jim Qualtrough said.

"We got calls from the public asking for help and in response we
saturated the area with undercover officers and were easily able to
find who we were looking for," he said.

The targeted areas were in two police divisions, stretching from
Islington Ave. and Lake Shore Blvd. W. to the Jane St. and Sheppard
and Finch Aves. area.
