DRUG PROOFING WORKSHOP OFFERS INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

How to Drug Proof Your Kids is a six week workshop that focuses on
providing practical drug information to parents, as well as focusing on how
to build relationships between parent and child.

Topics of this six-week session include why kids take drugs, facts about
drugs, prevention tools and how to identify a potential problem. This is a
great way for parents to receive practical information that will better
prepare them to talk to their children about drugs, through discussion of
effective tools and strategies that will strengthen their families and be
better able to respond to questions and situations where drugs are involved.

Parents will leave with practical skills such as knowing the signs and
symptoms of drug use and abuse and ways to help children never get involved
with substance abuse.

Knowledge is power, and developing strategies to help your children make
informed choices about drug use is very important.

"This is about more than drugs, it is about developing good communication
between parents and kids," says workshop facilitator Randy Wheeler.

Workshops will run Wednesday nights March 9, 15, and April 6, 13, 20 and 27
from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Summerland Middle School. Each workshop will also
provide coffee, juice and snacks.
