SEMINAR MARKS ANTI-DRUGS ABUSE DAY

THE Northern Governorate held a seminar on drugs abuse at Shaikh Ibrahim
mosque in Daih as part of activities to mark the International Day against
Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking.

This annual event, organised by the United Nations Office on Drugs and
Crime (UNODC), was this year celebrated under the theme Let's talk about drugs.

The day was marked around the world on Saturday.

At the seminar Shaikh Shaker Al Fardan explained the dangers of drug abuse
and highlighted Islam's role in fighting it.

He stressed the importance of united action to get rid of this unwanted
phenomenon once and for all.

Activities will continue on Thursday with a drugs exhibition at Jawad Food
Garden, Budaiya, held in collaboration with the Interior Ministry.

Drugs will be put on display from 10am to 10pm for people to help recognise
the different types of drugs in addition to pictures of police raids and
drug abuse.

The governorate is also holding a number of seminars to discuss the issue.

A seminar entitled Drugs ... A Monster Threatening Our Society is being
held in co-operation with the Islamic Enlightenment Society.

It will take place at Musaab bin Umair mosque in Hamad Town on July 6 at 9pm.

Another seminar, entitled How to Protect our Children from Drugs, will be
held with the association of Boori Charity Fund on July 20 at 8.30pm in
Matam Al Imam Al Baqer in Boori.

All events are open to the public and entrance is free.
