TOO SNOOPY

You make an excellent point when you oppose the use of meter readers and
mail carriers to snoop around our homes, but you should have gone further.

If we value our privacy, why do we permit our police forces to use
undercover officers who earn their pay by sneaking around, trying to trick
us into revealing evidence that might help the police charge someone with a
crime? You might respond that we need undercover officers to identify and
charge those who sell illegal drugs or engage in prostitution. Then, why not
restrict the application of criminal law to those acts that directly and
physically harm others (thus legalizing drugs, prostitution and other
consensual crimes) so that we no longer need undercover officers?
