PEGUIS MOTHERS REFUSE TO ABIDE SCOURGE OF DRUGS

Dear Editor:

Interlake Spectator -- Mothers Against Drugs are just that. We are against
the family separation it has caused in our families; we are against the
violence it has brought to our community; and we are against the
destruction it has brought to our children.

We love our children, our family and our community. If you did, too, you
would see that watching our children high and hooked on drugs is not
funny.... You would see that making a dollar off the misery of our children
is wrong....You would see that you are killing our children and our
children's spirit. If you could see all the things, then you would
understand that, as a mother, my primary role is to protect my child.

As a mother, I am a giver of life for the nine months I carry my child -- I
talk to my child and develop a relationship before they ever enter this
world. For nine months, I imagine the endless possibilities my child has as
they grow and mature into adulthood ... and for the duration of my child's
life, I do everything humanly possible to ensure that my child is given a
fair chance in life. As mothers, we will stand up for our children and do
what is necessary to protect them from harm.

As mothers, we are not out to destroy you or ruin your life ... drugs will
accomplish that without my help. If selling drugs gives you power, use that
power to say NO! Use that power to make a meaningful difference in
someone's life ... in my child's life. You have a choice.

As Mothers Against Drugs, we do not hate you, but we do hate the drugs and
everything they do to our children. As mothers, we are compassionate and
recognize that you need our love. If you are addicted to drugs or selling
drugs, let us help. Helping you is not our job, it is our responsibility.

If you are a grandparent, auntie, uncle, parent, sister or brother affected
by illegal drugs, we need your support. We INVITE you as a community member
to stand with us, help us make a stand against illegal drugs in our community.

Watch for the next M.A.D. poster. Come out and support the protection of
our children and community.

If you have any suggestions, concerns or for further information, contact
645-4695 or write M.A.D. (Mothers Against Drugs); Box 699; Peguis First
Nation, Manitoba; ROC 3JO.
