STATE CANNOT WAIT TO ADDRESS METH PROBLEM

To the editor:

In regard to the methamphetamine issue, I submit that the problem
cannot wait for study and consideration. (''No funds for meth bills,
state committee says,'' March 23)

Counties are being consumed by this scourge. Law enforcement and
courts are important but not the total answer. We can sink all the
money we want into catching and warehousing the offenders, and we will
never dent the problem.

We must attack with education in all our schools, in every grade,
every week for every year our children attend our public and private
schools. We are rapidly creating a human time bomb of offenders and
their children as well as toxic waste dumps all throughout our
communities that will tax us both financially and socially for years
to come.
