DRUG STORY DID DESERVE FRONT PAGE

This is a response to an editorial in Wed., Feb. 18 edition of the
Ingersoll Times written by Jennifer Vandermeer.

In regards to putting the drug bust on page five. Yes, by the time this
news came into print it may have been old news. We know how powerful the
word of mouth is, especially in a small community. Your articles on this
matter or any other matters simply clarify the truth and inform the reader
of knowledge unaware to them. The article did deserve front page coverage
because of its value to inform residents of this on-going problem in our
communities.

I found it hard to believe that His Worship, Mayor Paul Holbrough, was
surprised by the scope of this drug bust. I am fairly new to this town and
I know there was a problem not long after moving here. As parents or
guardians, we need to be aware of what our children do. You ask questions,
you watch their eyes for substance abuse, you pay attention to their moods
and the list goes on and on in regards to drug/alcohol abuse. It's possible
we need more education on this matter.

Putting the "bust" article on the front page would have showed how much we
are concerned about this matter in our community and for the sake of our
children and citizens we best be concerned.

One more thing so greatly ignored. The article warranted front page
coverage because it also showed that our men and women in blue are doing
their job. These people put their lives on the line for us every day and
don't get paid proportionately for what they do to keep our lives safe. I
tip my hat to their on-going struggle to fight the drug trade and rid our
streets of people whose only interest is to line their pockets, with no
concern whatsoever for a human life.

I thank you for your time on this matter.
