METH COSTS PROMPT WORKSHOP

At the Estill Springs town meeting Thursday night, Alderman Bob Dean
suggested a workshop or seminar for residents on the emotional costs of
methamphetamine to communities, particularly to children.

Dean said such a program would be "timely" based on the arrests made during
last month's "Clean Sweep" operation where more than 100 people were
charged with manufacturing or trafficking in the illegal substance.

Dean said he had taken part in a 'drug task force workshop' and was
appalled by the affect meth manufacturing and use had on children.

"Kids as young as four or five are taken out of these meth labs and
stripped of everything," he said. "Their clothes, their belongs all taken
away, while their parents or guardians are taken to jail, it's just
devastating" he added.

Because of the toxic materials used to make methamphetamine, anything in
the home or apartment is usually so contaminated, it must be destroyed.

Dean asked Estill Springs police chief, David Cook to work on setting up an
information workshop for residents of the community to make them aware of
the hazards, and costs of the methamphetamine plague.
