ACKERMAN RIGHT ABOUT METH

The Union staff

Publisher Jeff Ackerman's opinion piece on methamphetamines (Feb. 3) was
right on target. With a very small change to county and municipal
ordinances, the local police agencies would have the tools to deal with
this menace.

All that would have to be done would be to make methamphetamine posession a
felony, with an amendment to the law preventing plea bargaining and
sentence reduction for this offense. We already have the three-strikes law,
and with these minor changes, the number of meth users, meth cooks, and
meth sellers on the loose in our county would quickly diminish.

Our county would also develop a reputation for being a bad place to be if
you want to use, cook, or sell methamphetamines. We must have zero
tolerance for methamphetamines.
