MARIJUANA SEIZURE

Welfare Check Tips Authorities Off, Warrants Not Yet Issued

Police have not apprehended any suspects in connection with a drug
seizure that took place Monday, but arrests are pending, according to
Craig Police Sgt. Bill Leonard.

Officers who worked the case are preparing warrants, Leonard
said.

Police on Monday executed a search warrant at 866 Barclay St. With the
help of a narcotics-detecting dog, police confiscated more than an
ounce of suspected marijuana, along with numerous items of
paraphernalia.

The green, leafy substance tested positive for marijuana, according to
a police report.

Cpl. Bryan Gonzales began working the case on Monday. Gonzales
received information about possible drug activity at the residence.

The person who reported the activity had visited the residence earlier
in the day to check on the welfare of a family member, Leonard said.
The person saw evidence of drugs and notified police.

Gonzales obtained a search warrant and went to the residence at 11
p.m. No one was at the home when police arrived, and the door was
unlocked, Leonard said.

Police entered the home with Fury, a dog that has been trained to
locate narcotics by smell.

No one has yet been charged because police are trying to determine who
lives at the house and establish a link between the marijuana and one
of the residents.

"It's complex because the house has several people who come and go,"
Leonard said.

Possession of between one and eight ounces of marijuana is a
misdemeanor offense.
