"MR. CLEAN" MIKE RYAN COMING TO ADDRESS SCHOOL

Mike Ryan will be speaking at a presentation hosted by the
Hanna Rangeland Rural Crime Watch at the J.C. Charyk
school early next month.

Ryan, also known as Mr. Clean, will be talking to students and parents
about the potential effects of drugs and crime on their future.

The meeting will provide information for students, parents and
teachers and is part of an overall drug abuse and crime prevention
strategy.

Ryan will be touching on a number of topics including recognizing and
avoiding drug abuse and crime prevention strategies.

Currently Ryan is the CEO and Program Director of Clean Scene Network
for Youth.

For the past 14 years he has been working with young people who may be
at risk of becoming involved with drugs or crime by talking about his
own experiences.

Before Ryan turned his life around and became the person he is today,
he was deeply involved in criminal activity.

He began to get in trouble when he was 8 years old and had his first
youth conviction at age 13.

Ryan became deeply involved in drug smuggling and travelled
extensively in Asia and South America, continuing his life of crime
until 1987. According to his criminal record, he has spent more than
six years in prison for drug trafficking as well as armed robbery.

Ryan has since cleaned up, thus the name "Mr. Clean," and has since
been named the United Way Volunteer of the Year in 1994 as well as the
John Howard Society Volunteer of the Year for 1994 / 1995 for his work
helping young people.

There are two meetings scheduled at the J.C. Charyk school, both to
run on Thursday, December 2.

The first, for students in grades 4 - 12, will run from 10:30 a.m. to
3:30 p.m.

The second meeting for adults is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and is
in the school Mezzanine.
