BAGS OF POT FOUND IN BURNED RESIDENCE

Police searched the fire-blackened basement of a north-end Barrie home
yesterday where drug activity is believed to have set off an explosion that
sent two residents to hospital.

Barrie police and an investigator from the Ontario Fire Marshal's
office searched the two-storey home at 11 Lindsay Court yesterday,
leaving with two shopping bags full of marijuana, butane and other
items, including a hammer.

A fire ripped through the house Tuesday evening.

"We believe that the explosion, fire and drug activity are all
related," said Det. Sgt. Mark Holden of the Barrie police.

Fire and emergency medical services arrived at the house, which is
divided into two apartments, around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Paramedics took two of the dwelling's five occupants to Royal Victoria
Hospital with minor burns on their hands and faces.

They were treated and released.

Police did not release the ages or sexes of those evacuated from the
house.
