STREET CREW MAKES PAIR OF BUSTS AT CHAT

Two 19-year-old men were arrested for selling marijuana on school property
last week.

The arrests came after police were given a tip the men were trafficking at
Chatelech Secondary School. The Sunshine Coast RCMP Street Crew set up a
two-day surveillance of the school, and as a result, the arrests were made.

"Both males were found with large quantities of marijuana in their
possession, all of which was packaged and ready for distribution," said
Const. Bryson Hill.

The men were not students at the school but visited frequently to sell
packages of marijuana to students.

"Trafficking drugs is taken seriously by the police and by the courts but
is considered even more serious when it is done at or near a school," Hill
said.

"It is hoped that with the two recent arrests those who are dealing drugs
anywhere near a school will think twice, knowing that the police are
working at great lengths to rid the schools of illegal activity."

The RCMP Street Crew and the Youth Detail have been working together to
target drug traffickers at schools on the Coast, Hill added.

"The two units have been working in plain clothes and in unmarked vehicles
in an attempt to witness the dealers in action.

The police have been hiding in the bushes and in parked vehicles with views
of the areas known for drug dealing," said Hill.

He is asking for the community's ongoing assistance to combat drug
trafficking on the Coast.

"If you have information related to drug trafficking on the Sunshine Coast
or elsewhere in B.C. please contact the Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266
or call Crimestoppers at 604-740-0041.

Remember we want your information, not necessarily your name," Hill said.
