SCHWEITZER WORTH A VOTE; MOST INITIATIVES AREN'T

We don't spend much space in this newspaper telling people how we think they ought to vote.  But some matters on the Nov.  2 ballot have provoked us enough to venture a few opinions.  In no particular order, here they are:

* Medical marijuana: This modest proposal would give people in pain legal access to an inexpensive and natural medication.  There is no reason to oppose it other than political humbuggery.

What lies behind opposition to this measure is the fear that somebody, somewhere, might take an illicit toke on a marijuana cigarette.  Somebody just might, but does that justify letting others suffer?
