VILLAGERS HELP POLICE

Police are working with villagers of Natewa district in Tukavesi,
Cakaudrove, to eradicate rampant crime in the area.

Police spokesman Kolinio Vunaki said Operation Sikovalesu would start
today with officers working with villagers to uproot marijuana plants.

The week-long operation will see all the officers stationed at
Tukavesi and about 90 villagers combing the bushes for the illegal
marijuana plantations.

Mr Vunaki said the operation was a follow up to a previous operation
there two months ago.

Mr Vunaki said police would co-operate with churches in the district
to wean youths off growing and smoking the drug.

"There will be a church service every afternoon during the operation."

Mr Vunaki has called on the people of Natewa to rally and co-operate
with police.
