D.A.R.E. PROGRAM TO STAY IN B'JOUR

A well-respected drug awareness program will continue to be taught in the
Beausejour area.

The 10-week Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program is taught
by members of the local RCMP detachment.

In June, it was reported the program was in danger of being cut out of
the Grade 6 curriculum in Edward Schreyer School because of transfers
within in the RCMP.

Const. Guylaine Berube, the last officer certified to teach the
program, was transferred in August.

While initial requests to replace Berube with another officer trained
in the DARE program were denied, Const. Corey Larsen has received
approval to take the two-week certification course.

Larsen left for Edmonton last week to begin his training.

Staff Sgt. Dan Murchison said decisions about when the program will
begin and whether it will be taught in both ESS and Gillis schools
still had to be made.
