PAYPHONES PAWNS IN WAR ON POT

To the editor:

Citizens must endure an unending series of indignities just so politicians
can hide their heads in the sand about prohibition ("Police payphone policy
under fire," Jan. 14).

Thanks to what is primarily a war on pot, we are expected to accept the
curtailment of our civil liberties, accept the war zone that our streets
have become, accept the underage sales that are a historical hallmark of
prohibition, accept government corruption as displayed by the recent
legislative raids, accept ever increasing police power, and accept being
pushed around by the U.S.

And now the police are taking our phones? Albert Einstein said that
insanity is "continuing to do the same things and expecting different
results." This is truly insane.
