MARIJUANA SUPPLIER HAS HIS PAROLE REVOKED

VANCOUVER - The founder of the Canadian Sanctuary Society, which is
supplying marijuana to the Da Kine Smoke and Beverage Shop, has had his
parole revoked and will remain in jail.

Donald Briere, 53, made a brief appearance in Vancouver provincial court
Wednesday and was remanded in custody until Oct. 1.

He was arrested on Sunday by Vancouver police officers, who found about
three kilograms of marijuana in his vehicle, along with about $6,000. His
arrest was kept from the public until Wednesday, when Constable Sarah
Bloor, a police spokeswoman, confirmed published reports that he was
already in jail. Briere was convicted in 2001 of running what Surrey RCMP
called at the time the largest growing-operation they had seen.

He was released on full parole in June, 2003, after serving three years of
a four-year sentence. As a condition of his parole, he had to stay away
from the drug trade and other criminal activities.
