PROHIBITIONIST PROPAGANDA ALIVE

Editor, The News:

It never ceases to amaze me how prolific letter writer Eric Myrholm
keeps his hand on the pulse of official drug policy propaganda (''Pot
legalization is wrong!' Sept. 2).

No sooner do the disinformation specialists at the U.S. Office of
National Drug Control Policy crank out another complete fabrication
and Myrholm is off parroting again.

He said: Legalize drugs and the money will roll in. Please - Grade 9
economics dictates that if we stopped restricting the supply to the
tune of $7 billion per year and open up the production, the price
would plummet.

He said: Since the Le Dain Commission report, THC content has soared
from to between 22 and 30 per cent from one per cent. This is fresh
off the propagandists' drawing board and it is pure, discredited hogwash.

Average THC content has risen to between five and 12 per cent today
from between three and eight per cent in the 1970s - and that's a good
thing, as it means less smoke and more medicine.

He said: It appears the Senate Special Committee on Illegal Drugs
report used information supplied by the pro-marijuana activists.
Again, pure hogwash.

Obviously, Myrholm would be wasting his time examining the report, but
anyone with an open mind would quickly realize how comprehensive and
far-reaching the Senate report is, or any of the numerous other
studies that have been commissioned over the last 100 years or so,
are.

They all have one thing in common, they all recommend legalization or
decriminalization, and so do I.
