MOUNTIES ON A ROLL WITH MAJOR DRUG SEIZURES

A series of a busts on the Trans-Canada this month may have put a crimp in a
drug smuggling pipeline but they're just a very small part of a major
problem, says Revelstoke detachment commander Staff-Sgt. Randy Brown.

"In the past 14 days Revelstoke detachment members have seized over eight
kilograms of psilocybin mushrooms, almost seven kilos of cannabis and six
kilograms of cocaine," he said Monday. "These seizures are just a tip of the
iceberg as to the amount of illegal drugs that are being transported on our
highways. "

Brown said in a statement that many of the arrests and drugs seized belong
to "organized crime groups that specialize in the drug trade and utilize
couriers to transport the drugs across the province and western Canada".

The former Drug Awareness Coordinator for Northern BC, said that contrary to
popular belief, drug use is not a victimless crime and "is responsible for
the increase in adolescent drug use and crime that is occurring around us."
