HIGHER METH BONDS IMPOSED

Those who are arrested and placed in the Franklin County Jail on methamphetamine and crack cocaine charges will now see higher bonds imposed.

In making the announcement Friday, Franklin County General Sessions Judge Tom Faris stated that he had raised the bond for first time offenders from $7,500.  "What these drug are doing to our county is horrible," Judge Faris explained.  He added that a spot check was made of surrounding counties by Lt.  Scottie McKay of the Franklin County Sheriff's Dept.  to determine what their bonds were for people arrested on meth related charges.  The Corrections Officer reported to Faris that the bonds in Lincoln County were $25,000, Bedford County $25,000, Coffee County $25,000, Marion County $25,000 and Grundy County $7,500..

The new bonds will be $25,000 for those charged with manufacturing methamphetamines, as well as, felonious possession of methamphetamines.  Those who are charged with attempting manufacturing methamphetamines will be $15,000.  The new bond fees went into effect Friday.
