HALTON POLICE OFFICER TAKES DARE TO THE PHILIPPINES

A 10-year veteran of the Halton Regional Police Service returned last week
after serving as part of an elite training team in Philippines instructing
36 police officers and five teachers there.

Constable Wendy Moraghan was one of the six Canadian police officers on the
DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) training team along with a teacher.

At the end of the two-week training the Philippine officers will be fully
certified to teach DARE.

This is the first time that DARE International has sought outside
assistance in the training and certification of new DARE officers. Until
now the Canadian team, which has been around since 1999, had only been
requested to do training in Canada.

"We are very proud of Constable Moraghan representing our service as part
of an international training contingent," said Halton Police Chief Ean
Algar. "Her selection to this training team is a testament to her skill as
an educator demonstrated through years of committed teaching the DARE
program to youngsters throughout the Region of Halton."
