THANKS TO ROAD CREWS AND POLICE

To the road maintenance crews and police of Broome, Tioga, and Tompkins
counties:

During this year's Skate for Justice event, which took place on Sunday,
June 22, we found the road conditions to be quite favorable. Despite the
rain during the early part of the event, the shoulders were very clear and
in good repair throughout Route 79. We were able to stay in the shoulder
for almost all of the 50-mile journey.

We encountered police only once during the skate -- a deputy from the
Broome County Sheriff's Department. He was responding to a call that we
were blocking traffic. Although the officer initially indicated that he was
going to arrest us, he ultimately just notified us that we could not
obstruct traffic, but could skate in the lane when no traffic was present.
He was brief, polite and even wished us luck.
