Region to Unite On Drugs

Kampala

The British High Commissioner has asked African countries to unite in
the fight against drug trafficking.

"Regional co-operation and exchange of informationis crucial," Mr Adam
Wood said yesterday.

Mr Wood was speaking at the 14th East African workshop for CID and
anti-narcotics officers at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

Senior police officers from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda
attended the workshop on drug trafficking.

Mr Wood said that his country would continue funding the fight against
drugs.

"That's why we sponsor such workshops but they will not bear fruit
without the co-operation of member states," Mr Wood said.

He said that his government would help the Anti-Narcotics Unit in
Uganda to ensure that the country is not used as a conduit for drugs.
The participants agreed to share information about suspected
traffickers in the region.
