PROHIBITIONIST POLICIES RESPONSIBLE

RE: "BULLETS fly in bad drug deal" (June 15): I am sure that if one checked
newspaper headlines during the Prohibition era in the U.S., one would have
found the identical headline with the word "alcohol" substituted for
"drugs" and gangsters taking the place of drug dealers in the story. Also
available for public consumption would be a prohibitionist mindset on the
part of the newspaper and the reading public that could not comprehend that
they themselves and their prohibitionist policies were directly responsible
for the war and carnage that surrounded them. Why is it that we need to
learn the same lessons every generation?
