POT AND GUNS

RE "U.S., Canada to hold joint talks" (May 14): While Justice Minister
Martin Cauchon is busy trying to appease the Americans over the issues of
pot possession this week, is he also going to be busy trying to get them to
appease us over the issues of American gun possession and cross-border
smuggling? Substitute the word "guns" for "pot" in any of their concerns
and see how similar the cases are. In this light, we see the hypocrisy of
the situation. Their gun-rich society is entrenched in American law, so we
have to shut up about all of those guns coming across the border. Changes
to our drug laws, however, have to appease the American lawmakers, because
drugs might get into the U.S. Laughable, considering how many drugs are
already there.

(The U.S. has already lost the "war on drugs," and we're losing the war on
handguns)
