Substitute the word "guns" for "pot" in any of their concerns and see how similar the cases are. In this light, we see the hypocrisy of the situation. Their gun-rich society is entrenched in American law, so we have to shut up about all of those guns coming across the border. Changes to our drug laws, however, have to appease the American lawmakers, because drugs might get into the U.S. Laughable, considering how many drugs are already there.
