STATE TROOPER CHARGED WITH DRUG POSSESSION RESIGNED

HARRISBURG -- An N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper charged last week with drug
possession has resigned from the force, an agency spokesman said.

Gregory B. Charo, 31, was charged with four drug-related offenses after
authorities served a search warrant at his Hawick Commons Drive home.
Charo's wife, Kristina Marie Doby, was also arrested, along with her father
and brother.

More arrests were made at Baby Dolls, a Charlotte strip club where Kristina
Doby worked as a dancer and where authorities said she sold drugs.

Charo is charged with felony possession of cocaine, felony maintaining a
dwelling to keep a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug
paraphernalia and misdemeanor possession of Xanax.

His bond was initially set at $100,000, but was reduced to $5,000 Monday
after his attorney filed a motion saying the initial amount did not reflect
the charges. Charo was released from the Cabarrus County jail the same day.

N.C. Highway Patrol First Sgt. Everett Clendenin said Charo resigned
Wednesday afternoon. An internal investigation will now be closed, he said.
