Must be signed w/phone# Author: Larry Seguin NO NEW JAIL To the editor: How can any legislator even think of burdening the taxpayers for a $40 million new jail while schools are cutting teachers? (Jail Overcrowding March 18). We are looking at double-digit increase for school taxes; double digit cuts in teaching positions and the legislators not only want a new jail they want to increase the capacity by 100%. The legislators should be asking what crimes are filling the jail? Violent crime is lowest since 1973 (Sept. 9, 2002). We already know what is shorting our kids' education funds. The politically selected war on cannabis. The Rockefeller Drug Laws have shown us you build a jail cell, you pass a law to fill it! Get the facts.
