COMPARISON WITH DAY CARE PROGRAMS IS DISTASTEFUL

In pushing for government oversight of faith-based drug treatment programs,
your Feb. 13 editorial included a severely flawed analogy between
faith-based drug treatment programs and state-subsidized day care programs.

The motivation behind not-for-profit, faith-based drug treatment programs
is to help addicted people find freedom. The motivation behind day care
centers is to take advantage of a business opportunity. Because their
motivation is profit, day care centers have a greater need for oversight.
Service providers are much more subject to greed and temptation, which lead
to abuse of the system.

I am sure that people who work to help addicted people find freedom are
offended that you would compare their motives and intentions to those of
day care scam artists. I certainly find it distasteful.
