CANNABIS IS A PLANT, NOT A DRUG

Isn't Libba Jackson-D'Ambrosi ("Marijuana is not medicine," Friday)
talking about drugs, which are controlled by the DEA, when dissing
cannabis (marijuana)? Cannabis (kaneh bosm) not only came before the
DEA, but it has been documented for more than 5,000 years of medicinal
use, still without a fatality.

Drugs are manmade. Cannabis is not a drug, but rather a plant given to
us by The Ecologician that can be used for medicine. Raphael
Mechoulam, of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and GW
Pharmaceuticals are producing rapid-onset cannabinoid delivery systems
using THC. That is proof positive that cannabis has enormous medical
value and potential. Mechoulam's work proving that cannabis and THC
have medical value discredits the U.S. government's Schedule I
placement of cannabis, claiming cannabis has no medical value.

In short, Jackson-D'Ambrosi did not make an argument for perpetuating
the practice of caging humans for using plant cannabis.

Congress must reclassify cannabis.
