INSANITY DEFINED

Regarding your Jan. 24 editorial, "Just say no to drug legalization,"
there may be many people, like myself, who admired Gary Johnson, the
former governor of New Mexico, just for the reason the editorial
belittled him: his passion for what he believed.

Johnson exemplifies that quality of a statesman - as opposed to just a
politician - in which he stood up for what he believed was right
regardless of the personal cost.

Even when an individual is on the opposite side of the fence on
issues, he can be admired for character strengths of honesty and
tenacity in attempting to find solutions to seemingly intractable problems.

Benjamin Franklin said, "The definition of insanity is doing the same
thing over and over and expecting different results." Johnson was
attempting to get people to think about a saner drug policy approach.
