ALL THUMBS

Appearing each Saturday, "All Thumbs" is The Benton County Daily
Record's take on the people, events and issues deserving a "thumbs up"
for a noteworthy accomplishment or good deed or a "thumbs down" for
damaging conduct or boneheaded buffoonery. Thumbs up to Rockwell
Transportation in Gentry and the Benton County Sheriff's Office for
teaming up on one of the biggest drug busts in Benton County history -
even if none of the culprits were from the area.

A truck from Rockwell had been hired to take a load of electronics
from Laredo, Texas, to the Chicago area, but Rockwell's owner became
suspicious when there was trouble with payments and the shipper
couldn't be contacted.

So he brought the load back to Gentry and called the Sheriff's Office.
The result: Concealed amid the cheap electronic equipment was 1,160
pounds of marijuana. The street value of the seizure was estimated by
Sheriff Keith Ferguson to be $1.5 million.

The smart thinking on the part of Rockwell helped keep a massive
amount of drugs off the street - not to mention a hefty sum of change
out of the pockets of drug dealers.
