WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

I am responding to Dale Higgins' vicious personal attack on Ron du
Bois and family. Ron has been working for years trying to get
treatment for all addicts instead of prison. We know that the wealthy
can go to an expensive treatment center and then be forgiven for
whatever addiction they have, witness Rush Limbaugh. The ordinary
citizen is not so fortunate and can easily wind up in prison instead
of treatment, thus costing the taxpayers three or four times as much
money.

Gloria Williams' response to Higgins' letter pretty well sums up my
feelings. Personal attacks will not solve the drug problem. Working to
find the facts about addiction and the effects of drugs, and working
to change unjust laws will.

That is why Ron founded the Drug Policy Forum. You can find more
information about us online at or watch for announcements of our
meetings, the second Wednesday of each month, in the NewsPress.

As for Sgt. Bostick's letter, I am so happy that he reminded us of our
choices in a free society: Work within the system to change the laws
you do not like. Again, that is what the Drug Policy Forum is all about.
