NSW BANS 'SPECIAL K' FOR RAVERS

The New South Wales Government has banned a short-acting anaesthetic - known
as Ketamine - which it says is growing in use amongst rave and dance party
goers.

The drug is referred to as 'Special K', 'Cat valium', 'K', or
'Bump'.

It is traditionally used by vets as a horses tranquilliser.

Special Minister of State John Della Bosca says in addition to adverse
side effects including vertigo and nausea, the drug can cause extreme
anxiety, respiratory depression, severe palpitations, paranoia,
psychosis and persistent hallucinations.
