ZERO TOLERANCE DEMANDS HIGH PRICE IN NEEDLESS VICTIMS 2 OF 2

OK, Tim Priest (Letters, January 29). Having got law-breakers into prison, 
what then? Are they to be trained in criminality by the prison culture? Are 
they to be bashed and raped? Are they to become druggies, if they are not 
already druggies? Must they be totally dehumanised? Do you then have to 
keep rearresting them for further criminal activity when they are released?

Is it impossible for them to go against the culture and make something of 
themselves, to become good husbands, good fathers, good employees, good 
citizens and free of drugs?

Can't we do better than what goes on now?
