RUSH AND BENNETT NOT GODS

In Jarrod Patterson's letter on Oct. 18, he takes swipes at Bill Bennett
and Rush Limbaugh for having the audacity to be human.

Neither of these men have set themselves up to be gods or above the laws of
man or nature. Has Bennett been charged with a crime? No. What immoral act
did he commit? Did he deprive his family of some necessity? Get real.

As for Limbaugh, an investigation will determine whether evidence exists
that will result in an indictment and charges under the law. We don't know
if he obtained his drugs illegally or not. We do know that the drugs he
took were painkillers, not crack or cocaine.

It is obvious that Patterson does relish in the "suffering or
embarrassment" of outspoken conservatives. Patterson's attempt to denigrate
these men is obviously an attempt to denigrate their message.

It is also obvious that Patterson has neither listened to Bennett or
Limbaugh nor read their books. Both offer encouraging, upbeat messages of
self-reliance.

I'm sure Bennett and Limbaugh have personal flaws that we have yet to be
made aware of - just like the rest of us. Their detractors will be digging
hard to uncover them. When they find something, Patterson will be one of
the first to hoot and point. Who cares?
