INVESTIGATOR RESIGNS OVER BAD DRUG BUST

A sheriff's investigator resigned and six drug charges against a Selma man
were dismissed in what Dallas County officials described as a discrepancy
in paperwork.

District Attorney Ed Greene dismissed the charges against Robert Dower, 28,
who was released from the county jail on Tuesday. Dower was arrested Oct.
21 at a motel on cocaine and related charges.

Sheriff Harris Huffman Jr. said there were discrepancies in the affidavit
and search warrant. He said some false statements were made, which led to
the resignation of the narcotics officer involved in the arrest.

Huffman declined to name the officer who resigned.

The Selma Times-Journal reported that investigator Nash Gipson, who was
involved in Dower's arrest, is no longer employed by the department, which
only had two narcotics officers.
