LIMBAUGH'S ADDICTION

Rush Limbaugh admitted Friday he is "addicted to prescription pain
medication.

"I first started taking prescription painkillers some years ago," he
added, "when my doctor prescribed them to treat post surgical pain
following spinal surgery."

We wonder: Was that before or after his talk-show riff in 1995 in
which he said "if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they
ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to
be sent up."

To be sure, later in the same show he seemed to refine the position to
focus on those who trafficked in drugs, which no one has accused him
of doing. And it is also true that a person caught in the vice of
addiction can sincerely advocate cracking down on people like himself.

It hardly matters. Limbaugh has been done in not just by his behavior
but his own merciless words.
