IRAN POLICE SEIZED 58 TONS OF DRUGS IN FOUR MONTHS

Ardebil, Aug 21, IRNA -- Iran`s Police announced on Thursday that they had
seized 58 tons of drugs in a period of four months starting March 21,
stressing that this showed an increase of 30 percent compared to the same
time last year.

Head of the Police Anti-drugs Department Brigadier General Mehdi Abouei told
reporters in a press conference that the police had arrested some 38,000
drug traffickers and 92,000 addicts in this period.

Abouei also said that the police had carried out 312 operations against the
traffickers along Iran`s eastern borders, adding that 106 of the operation
had developed into armed clashes.
