JOHN'S, Nfld. -- Marc Emery added another arrest for smoking marijuana to his growing list when he lit up outside a police headquarters in Newfoundland on Saturday. The pot activist was read his rights just seconds after he put his lighter to the large water pipe. The stop in St. John's was the latest for the 45-year-old Vancouver resident, on his cross-country tour to protest Canada's pot laws. He has also been arrested in Moncton, N.B., Winnipeg and Regina. He later reappeared from the headquarters of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and addressed about 100 of his supporters. Some members of the group extended an invitation to the publisher of Cannabis Culture magazine to join them for smoking and further discussion at a local park. Emery said his detainment by the "polite" Newfoundland officers was his quickest yet. Staff Sgt. June Layden said it may take a number of weeks before a decision is made on whether to charge Emery for possessing marijuana since lab analysis of the seized pot is required. Emery will continue his tour until the end of August with stops in central and western Canada, as well as the Yukon. - --- MAP posted-by: Josh
