DRUG WAR NOT WORKING

To the editor:

Thanks, Herald-Times, for publishing Mike Plylar's outstanding letter, "End
war on drugs" (May 10).

In Plylar's poignant question, "If we fight the war on terrorism like we
fought the war on drugs, can we expect the same results?" Unfortunately,
the answer is yes.

If the United States had continued the counterproductive policy of Alcohol
Prohibition, I doubt the Allies would have been victorious in World War II.

If the United States continues our counterproductive policy of drug
prohibition, our very survival as a nation is in doubt.
