COUNCIL APPROVES BUY-BUST FUND; TO DEMAND 720 ARRESTS

THE CEBU City government will allocate P360,000 from its Pagcor funds to
finance a three-month operation against illegal drugs.

This after the National Drug Law Enforcement and Prevention (NDEP)
Coordinating Council discontinued its P50,000 monthly assistance to the
Cebu City Police Office.

The City Council approved the release of the buy-bust fund through a
resolution submitted by Councilor Sylvan Jakosalem during the council
session Wednesday afternoon.

The funding will be added to the P10,000 monthly operational funds the city
police receives from their national headquarters, Jakosalem said.

Cebu City south district Rep. Antonio Cuenco also pledged to allocate
another P360,000 for police operations during a conversation with Jakosalem
last Wednesday.

With the fresh funds for police operations, city officials will require
police to come up with at least 240 arrests each month, or a total of 720
arrests in three months.

Jakosalem said the P360,000 allocation from the city government will be
divided among the citya's 11 police stations.

Operations will focus on street pushers carrying 0.1 to 5.0 grams of drugs,
Jakosalem said in his approved resolution, adding that police can also
request for the city's assistance to apprehend big time drug pushers.
