DRUGS, HOUSING

In your April 4 editorial, you criticize a recent decision of the U.S.
Supreme Court, which unanimously held that federal law permits, indeed
requires, the eviction of a public housing tenant if a family member or
guest living with the tenant is involved with drugs ("Drug Law Ruling:
Evictions due to guilt by association fail due process," April 4).

You contend that the court should have written a narrow decision holding
that the law applies only to tenants who themselves are convicted of drug
crimes.

In other words, you wish that the court had ignored what the justices
unanimously found to be the unambiguous language and intent of Congress, and
had substituted a more lenient policy decision.
