DRUG WARNINGS TO BE POSTED ON NEW WEB SITE

Warnings about particularly potent heroin and amphetamines which hit ACT
streets will be posted on a new alcohol and drug web site launched yesterday.

Directions ACT (Assisting Drug Dependents) executive director Karen Harmon
said the web site would also provide information about licit and illicit
drugs, the law, treatments, needle exchange, health issues and canvas
topics such as heroin trials and injecting rooms.

People who were concerned or curious about drugs could confidentially
access up-to-date information.

"The web site is a tool that will assist parents, teachers, young people,
youth workers, health professionals, alcohol and drug dependent persons and
those experimenting with recreational drugs to seek out information which
will contribute to a broad understanding of the issues related to drug use
in the ACT," she said.

Chief Minister Jon Stanhope launched the web site which aimed to help
people reluctant to meet face-to-face with Directions ACT staff and provide
detailed information which was impossible over the telephone, she said.
