CANINE JUSTICE

I have seen no better indictment of the stupidity of zero-tolerance 
approaches to drug policy than your March 28 story, Sniffer dog find gets 
boy booted. However, the point of the story seemed to be what the dog 
didn't find, which was any proof of any wrongdoing by the boy.

A canine jury pronouncing guilt is certainly a novel approach to 
jurisprudence, but will it really stand up to a Charter challenge?

I can think of no better way to teach teenagers utter contempt for the law 
and their country than such obviously arbitrary and unjust actions. Welcome 
to the 21st Century, kids, repeat after me: You are guilty until ...
