CITY POLICE GET DRUG ENFORCEMENT GRANT

GENEVA - The city police department has been awarded a $25,000 state
grant to assist with the department's drug enforcement efforts.

City Police Chief Frank Pane said the money will be used to pay for
overtime for the department's full-time narcotics officer.

Pane requested the funding because he had to assign the another
narcotics officer to other duties because of a shortage of officers
due to those retiring, transferring or out on disability.

"Our local police officers are on the front lines in drug
enforcement," said state Sen. Michael F. Nozzolio, R-53 of Fayette,
who chairs the Senate's Crime Victims, Crime and Correction
committee. "This funding will help enhance the department's efforts
in enforcing our drug laws and keeping our residents, families and
communities safe."
