The project consists of two-week educational/treatment programs. The first program took place in December 2001. The second program began last week in Sydney and a third is scheduled for April. The project was established to enhance outpatient services currently provided to adolescents by addiction services. It also helps adolescents identify the skills they may need to prevent addiction. Andre Campbell, clinical therapist and team leader for the adolescent program, said, "Adolescents have regular access to office-based counselling and services and now this structured group program gives adolescents a chance to face their addiction challenges together." A parent support group runs in conjunction with the two-week residential program. Parents are provided with education and support related to adolescent addiction problems. "Collaboration with families, schools and other community organizations is important. That support and follow-up improves the chance for success," said Campbell. - --- MAP posted-by: Ariel
