IT STARTS AT HOME

To the Editor:

Regarding "Kids need information on Ecstasy" ("Point of View," Dec. 1): I
agree that reality-based programs are important. However, the
responsibility to stop the use of drugs shouldn't fall on Congress, school
systems or dance clubs. It's the home environment that is key to keeping
kids off drugs.

When will we stop expecting others to take care of our children? I'm 21 and
can say without a doubt that I am drug-free because of my parents. "Just
say no" and "reality-based" programs are important, but only when we put
the responsibility where it belongs, on parents, will we ever hope to keep
kids off drugs.
